We completely understand the questions, we had them too, initially. Allow us to explain our methods and then see our results!
We start our process with a thorough surface area vacuuming and edge vacuuming. This extra step that many carpet cleaners neglect, removes loose soil particulate and creates the ideal environment for thorough cleaning. Next we apply a light spray of our unique citrus based cleaning solution (no harsh chemicals) to your carpets and allow the solution to begin breaking down the soil further. What is encapsulation carpet cleaning?

Encapsulation carpet cleaning is one part of a comprehensive carpet care plan that accompanies frequent vacuuming and annual deep extraction cleaning.

Encapsulation cleaning uses unique crystallizing polymers combined with effective detergent components to emulsify dry and oily embedded soils and then bind them with the soil particles so that when the chemistry dries in a brittle, crystalline structure (usually in 30 minutes), it is easily removed from the carpet fiber with routine vacuuming. It will not cause re-soiling and will extend the time between wet extractions.

This type of cleaning is beneficial because a carpet that looks clean may in fact hold a quantity of dirt. If you perform encapsulation cleaning on an “as needed” basis or only when the carpet appears dirty, you are allowing unseen dirt to remain in the carpet and cause damage as it is ground down into the fibers by foot traffic. Using Whittaker’s Smart Care:Registered: encapsulation carpet cleaning system as part of a scheduled maintenance program can extend the life of the carpet and reduce the time between restorative cycles, as poor visual appearance often limits carpet life to five years or less. As a result of regular encapsulation cleaning, measurably cleaner carpets will keep the indoor environment fresh and maintain carpet appearance.

Understanding the layers of a carpet:

The top layer is called the carpet nap or the carpet pile. Carpet pile needs to be considered when doing any kind of carpet repair. The shorter the nap, the more likely it is that you will see the seams. The next layer below the carpet nap is the backing. Most carpet comes with two layers of backing. The nap and layers of backing are normally all held together with a very strong adhesive. Under the carpet backing is your carpet pad.

Some carpet repairs can localized to just the top layer. Sometimes in the case of a minor carpet burn we will just remove the top layer of carpet while leaving the backing in place.

Finding a proper piece of carpet to do the patch with:

Most of the time there are some scraps left over from the original installation. These leftover scraps are the best place to start looking for a suitable patch. Always save the scraps when you have new carpet installed.
The next best place to find a suitable piece of carpet to do your carpet patch is in a closet. Often we will remove a piece of carpet from a closet to do the patch with and replace the closet carpet with something that the customer found at a carpet store.

Sometimes we don’t put anything back into the closet and just leave a bare spot. It’s not pretty but at least it’s in the closet where nobody will see it. (and it will probably be covered with shoe boxes anyhow.)

Very often the customer thinks that they can find an exact match at the carpet store. The chances of finding a match are not good. Even if you do find something that is supposed to be the same exact carpet, it’s likely that the dye lot will have changed ever so slightly.
If the stairway or hallway carpet has worn out but all the other carpet in the house still looks good, you may want to pull the carpet out of one bedroom to use to replace the worn out areas.
By using this strategy you can save a lot of money because now you only need to buy new carpet for one room. The carpet in the hallway or the carpet on the stairs will still match the carpet in the living room

Carpet seams are supposed to stay together until your carpet wears out. When seams fall apart it’s because the installer didn’t follow industry standards when he installed it. We get calls nearly every day to repair carpet seams and we can usually do it well enough that can’t see that there was ever a problem in the first place.

HOST® is the environmentally preferred carpet cleaning system that deep cleans your carpet and reduces dust mites and mold leaving it fresh, clean, dry and ready to use. Made from 100% plant-based resources and a little bit of water, HOST® is the easy, effective, safe and green carpet cleaner.

HOST® Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaner is a soft, natural product that is environmentally responsible and works in much the same way as an ordinary kitchen sponge. Just like you would use a sponge to wipe up a spill, or to wash and absorb dirt from a counter or wall, HOST® is used to wash and absorb dirt from your carpet fibers. As with using a kitchen sponge, you want to limit the amount of water you use while cleaning. Think of the carpet pile as a vertical surface, like a wall. If you use too much liquid, it will run down the yarn toward the carpet backing, just as too much liquid runs down a wall. If you allow this dissolved dirt to run down the backing, it can be more difficult to remove and can wick back.

Because HOST® is a dry carpet cleaning system it carries the liquid ingredients to the carpet fibers in a controlled way. The soft, organic, natural HOST SPONGES contain all the necessary liquid to dissolve and absorb both water based and oil based dirt. It’s moistened with water and a blend of environmentally friendly ingredients. And because HOST® is a low moisture cleaning system, when you’re finished cleaning, the carpet is dry and ready to use immediately.

Chemical and mechanical action is required to break the oil bond and pull the dirt away from the carpet fibers. Then this loosened dirt must be removed. HOST® is formulated to dissolve both types of dirt and then to absorb it. HOST® cleaning doesn’t leave a sticky residue to cause rapid resoiling. A trace of SPONGES may remain in the carpet after vacuuming but it is not abrasive or harmful. This trace amount of SPONGES will be removed with subsequent vacuumings. It’s that simple!
